This is an interesting issue. I am looking at it from a clothes/accessories standpoint. If I find something I like and can make it myself for my own personal use at a cheaper price, I don't really see a problem with that. For example, I really liked this fascinator: http://topsyturvydesign.com/catalog.php?item=76&catid=5&ret=catalog.php%3Fpage%3D2%26category%3D5... )

i agree, if you can't get the original designer to make it, then i see no issue with recreating it yourself.

i dunno if you read the comments on the article i linked to but one of them brought up a really good rule of thumb, if you change 7 things about a design then it's your own
and i think that pretty much covers it

There's something about copying something trying to be "offbeat" that makes me respect someone less. Kind of like "indie rock" as a genre you can find on giant corporate record labels.
Most people don't want to think, they don't know HOW to be creative, and they have trouble empathizing with humans in general, let alone artists. (Geeze, is this the negativity-obsessed Charles from five years ago??? IDK!)

Typical weddings are a giant part of Anti-Charles culture. I recently found out that white wedding dresses are a modern invention. I've heard of people who feel they need to take dancing lessons because their first dance is "supposed" to be special. These sorts of things are such vacuums of creativity IMO. If I was having a wedding I would want BLACK and DISCO BALLS and LASERS with FOG MACHINES and a DJ playing either CRAZY 1950s ROCKABILLY or SCARY INDUSTRIAL BEATS.
Um, in short: I'm not a wedding person so I don't have much relevant to say? But I like rambling on other folks LJs, clearly. :P
