Have you talked to the vet about this? She sounds uncomfortable, possibly physically. She clearly wants to be reassured that she isn't alone. A vet might be able to help you ease her anxiety.
I don't have much to offer in terms of my own expirience. Scout had very little trouble adjusting to her new surroundings... though I suppose it's an easy adjustment from coming off the streets. She does wake me up in the morning... but that's only to be fed.
I'll second Quags suggestion about the vet. Her behavior could be due to physical discomfort, so it'd be good to check that out. On the other hand, she could just be a night kitty. One of my cats engages in similar behavior when I try to go to sleep. He jumps on the bed, right by my head, and nudges me in order to get petted. He will keep annoying me until I start petting him. He does calm down after that and go to sleep, though. Maybe your cat has just learned that meowing and grunting is a way to get attention.
