tutorial 3

i hate tv caps. no, i really do. :/ but working around w/ one for the TV show Chuck (which i suggest everyone should watch.) i came up with this fairly simple version way of making blah dull TV caps into bright colorful icons.

go from
to
in PS7. should work for later versions of Photoshop though.

first we start off w/ the screencap i nabbed from chucktv.net and crop it to 100x100.

i ended up w/ this:

next you duplicate your base, setting it to Screen at 80%.

then you go to layer > new adjustment layer > hue/saturation, and set the master saturation to +43. i ended up w/ something brighter, but not bright enough for my taste.

next, add another adjustment layer, only this time selective color.

Red
cyan: -100
yellow: +100

Yellow
cyan: -100

Neutrals
cyan: -7
magenta: -23
yellow: -45
black: +9

you should end up w/ something like this:

bright, but not bright enough for my tastes. so i added another adjustment layer, at hue/saturation, setting the master saturation to +28, though its not needed in closer-up icons (like of faces, people.)

and voila! your finished! my finished result (along w/ a few other examples.) are below. :]

questions? concerns? examples of what you got? feel free to comment this tutorial! i love hearing feedback on what i do. :]
