upon getting around to the rest of my life

tonight i made home made lip balm and body butter with my friend theressa.
i had been meaning for -years- to actually getting around to this, though i would repeatedly sing the praises of DIY cosmetics for health and environmental reasons.
though you probably wouldn't want to, you could theoretically eat the body butter and have nothing go wrong. this is a pretty good gauge of whether or not something should be going on our skin in the first place. (with a notable exception for sunscreen blah blah blah)

so now i have grapefruit/ginger lip balm and grapefruit/ginger body butter. it was OUTRAGEOUSLY easy to do. getting the ingredients was the most time consuming. the preparation took only 20 minutes. it wasn't even a two person job, theressa did most of the work and really deserves the credit. the result was good smelling smoothness!

next on the chopping block is a DIY body sugaring recipe. no fabric nessecary! just lemon juice, water, and -alot- of sugar. which half-way poetic given my current position on consuming sugar. (it'll be fair trade ;D)

its easy to forget that our skin breathes. upon being covered in saran wrap for example, suddenly our ability to sense the world around us or to regulate body temperature goes out the window. i can imagine why people do it or fun. maybe i should get around to that one day.

there is a new apartment waiting for me in ottawa. though its in a basement, it couldn't be more spacious. the windows get direct sunlight, face the street, and are about twice as big as the minimum fire safety regulations allow. i may feel differently when next winter sets in, though I may also feel like it's my cozy cave. (i can reach the ceiling with my hand easily)
I've taken the time to make measurements. maybe I'll take the time to post the drawing i make of it.
