ahh, a question covered in my intro doctoral studies class last week. the answer is muddled. it depends if you want to be a fancy researcher OR if you are going to run away from academia. if you want to be a researcher in academia the school matters. BUT if you want to teach at a smaller school or work at a non-school job all you need is a Ph.D.. I don't know if this applies outside of communication- but it sounds like it would. godo luck. ph.d. applications are a bitch :)

Hi, friend.

Mia's answer is true in all I've heard as well. I would also add that if the school in question is well-reputed for the specific degree program you're considering, than it still is considered prestigious even if the school blows.

Por ejemplo, when I was considering SIU for PhD, I was nervous for the same reason. But I was assured that the reputation of the Performance Studies department is so great it supercedes the what-who?ness of the rest of the school.

Make sense?
Good to hear you're doing well. Come visit us soon!
