On one side Obama is getting bad press for saying same sex marriages are too expensive and having no budget for that sort of legislation.

On the other, he's extending federal benefits for SSDP

I voted for the guy in the hopes he would do more of this kind of thing. He has left me decidedly underwhelmed.

Note that "extending federal benefits" does not necessarily mean extending ALL federal benefits to the point of equality, nor does it necessarily mean extending them permanently. Unless a politician actually says "permanently equalizing all federal benefits" then he does not necessarily mean it. That's political double-speak for you.
