the hanging glass

give me a mirror
that i might fix my eyes
reflecting back
that penetrating gaze,
let it fall upon my heart,
and set ablaze the hardness
growing there, like a child
that wishes to be still born.

give me a mirror,
that i might see my eyes
and know what grows
within my chest, i cannot
understand my heart from
this distance but know
only that it does not rest.

give me a mirror,
that i might break my eyes
away from myself,
in silver slivers falling
down, ready to cut through
the pride of my eyes
grown red beneath the blue.

give me a mirror
but let it reflect
the darkness of my heart
that the light might shine upon it
a mirror, fast, hold fast,
a mirror bleeding
showing Adam
fallen, O shattered Mirror,
showing in our eyes
the fruit
of lies and lives wasted
on self-reflection.

give me a mirror,
the Mirror, dejected,
resurrected,
broken, sent tumbling down,
the shattered Mirror
hung for all to see,
to gaze upon enmity,
bleeding shards preceding sight,
give us that Mirror,
show us that Light!

give me the Mirror,
but let it reflect not the blue of eyes
turned away from all that is noble
worthy and true,
give me a Mirror,
that i might see You.
