awesomely said. and i liked your point about reading things BECAUSE they have the warning, and that simply knowing that going in changes your way of relating to the text.

I wandered over from a comment in someone else's lj, but I really identified with this in terms of the frustration of how people are discussing the issues. (I'm particularly fond of the whole "well, I read about PTSD, SO I KNOW" type comments.)

My only point of disagreement is that I would add character death to the list of warnings, as I'm not convinced it's that unusual as a legitimate trigger. (It's certainly my major trigger, and I've encountered others in this discussion for whom it's also a major issue, though I'm sure it's not to the same numbers as people with sexual assault related triggers, given the sheer numbers of people likely to have experienced some type of sexual trauma.) Unfortunately, it does suffer from overlap with the fact that a lot of people just don't LIKE character death, and so I've seen many people brushing it off as something that needs to be warned for on that basis.
