My most pressing question about this panel is not "who is this guy am I supposed to remember him" but "what is in that basket and is that what he's referring to when he says sweet

WHAT'S WITH THE EYELASHES ON THAT STAFF EYEBALL THOUGH THAT'S EVEN CREEPIER THAN GREMMY

The thing that's super interesting to me about this fight is that Ken-chan's attitude is still completely unchanged -- "oh, you're the strongest? well that's bullshit because I'm the strongest and I'm gonna prove it to you right now" but OTOH Ken-chan's never actually faced an opponent who's as utterly convinced of his own superiority as Ken-chan himself (and Unohana does not count because while she knew she was badass there was nuanced self-reflection there that's absent from both Kenpachi and Gremmy).
And this is probably what's singularly interesting about Gremmy - although his attitude is identical to Ken-chan's it's also his opposite at the same time, because people HAVE dared oppose Kenpachi and some have even handed his ass to him (but despite that, he continues to believe himself to be the strongest. ........I am not sure why that's endearing because it's actually something I'd normally find super irritating hahaha /o\)

ARE GUNS (and MISSILES (!!!)) EVEN ALLOWED IN BLEACH

I can't help but think "he didn't get cut down while constructing this logical chain? ken-chan's gettin rusty"
there are many reasons I am fond of Ken-chan and this is one of them
Translation: "I am about to become the thing with which a floor is wiped"
it's shounen manga; those are the rules
one other reason I enjoy Ken-chan is his completely consistent and reliable characterisation like he can ALWAYS be counted on to be all, "I haven't cut such a thing before" and then proceed directly to attempt cutting it, bless him

...except that didn't work so well with all the Quincies? Or was the shakonmaku supposed to have been constructed/created after the Quincies had already hidden themselves in Seireitei? I keep saying this, but I need to re-read this arc from the start.

so i am guessing Yachiru's angst (?) about Ken-chan "not being there any more" from the previous chapters might have something to do with him learning (and calling) his zanpakutou's name? maybe it represents a kind of severing of ties with her? but I don't really get it, because she knew HER zanpakutou's name so it can't be that they both were constant-release types who only knew each other's names but not their swords', kind of thing. i know it is bound to be explained but i am impatient
(by the way, what a perfectly badass name: Nozarashi)
