Dear Lovely Yuletide Author...
Hello ♥
In general, I love:
- stories that are kind of atmospheric, with some sort of "deeper meaning" through symbolism or whatever (ie, mentions of forest vs civilization, inner vs outer, etc) Lolzy is fine, though, too, as long as it's not cracky to the point of incoherency. Plotty is definitely good. It's cool if it's darkish, so long as it ends on a light/hopeful note. I love the whole slight-awkward feel, like a Wes Anderson film where they sort of stand there and stare at each other.
- good vocabulary. Whilst rotting my brain reading fic I learned the words procumbent (here), millinery ( here), and postprandial ( here)..Don't force it, it's just always fun.
- tension.
- moments where other characters observe the main characters, overhear things, or walk in on conversations/slightly iffy moments. I LOVE THIS. Especially when they're catching just glances/brief exchanges.
- when the main character thinks they have an enemy, but the enemy doesn't really notice that they exist.
- Any mention of mirrors and reflection = bonus points, as do fraught silences and gardens, or snowstorms. Stalking down shadowy corridors. Descriptions of clothing.
- please: no het. I'm not a hater per say. I just, well....I just don't care.
- pretend-to-be-dating/married fic pleassseee!!!
- Semi-dysfunctional relationships are a go.
REQUESTS
- The Little Prince: Modern-day royalty AU in which the prince feels like he is alone on the planet, and the Rose is another prince (that OR I would also equally adore a princess version) I really like how delicate the Rose acts under her glass vase, how the Prince is carrying out this huge Labor of Love, and how messed up their relationship is. Add other characters too if you would like, like the Narrator/the Drunkard/the Fox/the Serpent? If you want. A "jolted to reality moment" would be cool, either mid-story or in the end, where we see what's really going on. I also speak some French, so if you want to add semi-pretentious lines I would laugh and laugh with joy, even if you lift it directly as quotes from the French version (http://www3.sympatico.ca/gaston.ringuelet/lepetitprince/) This would seriously make me happy. Also, a moment I adored is when the narrator carried the sleeping prince through the desert, just so you know, and a line "On est seul aussi, chez les hommes." Bleurg, this book is both simplistic and messed up, and I love it.
- Hamlet by William Shakespeare: Hamlet/ANY guy character, just make it make a bit of sense with canon. I would love you for echoey halls and scenes in the play going on in the background, as if the reader were eavesdropping, or else a reworking of existing scenes. Possible ideas: It would be awesome to see Gertrude's commentary on her son, or on some other character. Horatio is honestly my favorite, though. Read this wikipedia page. The most trusted friend who is always there but doesn't really speak till the end so we don't notice really that he's there, poor and willing to drink the poison for Hamlet, 'more an antique Roman than a Dane.' I kind of like the idea that Horatio represents Hamlet's rationality, and when he offers to drink the poison at the end, he's offering Hamlet the choice of a life of madness, but Hamlet chooses to die rather than live without reason. Sigh. But yeah, Hamlet-style pretend to be together fic would be so awesome, first of it's kind. He could be pretending to date the gravedigger to bother his mother? Or Gertrude could be pretending to be married to the uncle, which would upend the whole story :)) It can be pre-play or during.
- Disney Princesses: I'd like a Modern-day Disney Princess story (also happy with traditional fairy tales if you so desire), in which the love interest is another girl. You can choose any princess story you'd like, but not the Little Mermaid please because she always seems really cold. Same goes for Mulan. This is a short prompt, but I almost want this more than the rest.
That said, I am a rather ridiculous person, almost asked for Gummi Bears fic, so no stress, nonster. When it comes down to it, I am just pleased about Yuletide in general. Thank you so much for being my writer! ♥
Thank you so much and good luck.
