Agreed on all you said above, the CBR-250 is a fine entry level bike.

Things are changing though, Kawasaki just started shipping the new Ninja 300. My roommate just put a deposit on this one today in fact:

What kind of fuel mileage are you seeing on average? Right now I'm awfully happy with the low-mid 40's I'm seeing with my SV. It's cut my weekly fuel consumption more than in half; darn I like riding. :D

Riding it hard, I'm seeing 65MPG. Take it easy, and you can expect 80-ish. :)

See that's the problem, these bikes are so fun to ride, you ride twice as much as you would otherwise and burn twice the gas :D

I've tried the new CBR250R out and they are nice bikes. Definitely would be good around town, and a great beginner bike.

I currently have an older Ninja ZZR250 from 2002, which I find also fun as you can be rev happy with it without getting into big trouble. It also gets good mileage which is always a plus.

The bike I want to try and maybe get someday is the older Honda CBR250RR MC22 from the late 80s early 90s. That looks like it would be a lot of fun, although I hear you best know how to work on bikes with that one.
