redoing my fursuit

Feb 19, 2008 17:22

OK, my fursuit is wonderful as is, but everyone things the fact the person who made it used Hot glue rather than sewing it together was generally a bad ides, so my question is this, if I want to sew it together, I have to get the glue out of the fur, how would you suggest that?

sorry to say this, but in all the years of making costumes, I have yet to find a good way of getting glue OUT of a costume....except cutting it.

What part of your suit needs to be redone? the head? If so, do you have enough fur leftover just to redo the head completely?

Yikes. I really don't know. Sewing through glue tends to gunk up and ruin your needles, whether it's on the machine or by hand. If it's baggy enough, can you just cut off the glued seams and sew up the new raw edges together?

The suit looked loose enough on you that you could probably just cut away the glued parts and sew a nice fresh edge without having it be too terribly tight.

You may be right, but I wouldn't risk doing the work myself really. I paid a good bit fot this suit, and his suits do tend to last a good long time as they are, so I may just cut and resew it if things do happen to go bad with the suit.

my first suit was all hot glued and it is still in great shape and its been 4 years, the white body suit i still use (made it 2 years ago) is 80% hot glue.

hot glue has its advantages as high-temp is hot enough to melt the fibers and thus when it cools it forms a very strong bond that unlike thread will not unravle. it also can still be washed in cold water (wich you have to do anyway as hot water an damage the fur)the only downside is glue has some weight to it and it can poke you.
i did recenlty removed the lower legs of my white suit and replace them with hand-sewn as the glue rubbed my skin.

so unless the glue is uncomfortable or visably looks bad i would leave it alone and wait and re-do it if the glue comes undone..
