Do you remember being young? I do. Remember being excited to be able to ride your two-wheeler bike by yourself? How about getting your Drivers’ License? More independence, right?

How about chafing at the teachers who scolded you for talking in class? The vice-principals who shook their heads and pulled out a measuring tape to make sure your skirt ( Read more... )

Great job! I am another one who is cheugy and proud of it, although I had never heard that word before this prompt. ;)

The word itself was totally unfamiliar to me, but I embrace your standard and would proudly wear a shirt with that proclamation.

LOL, love it! I remember going to a wine walk a few years ago (pre-pandemic) and we were behind a group of Red Hat ladies... they were having the MOST FABULOUS TIME and were such a hoot to chat with. I think they told me you have a be a certain age to join, but they are certainly in my sights for the future!

Lately I feel like (based on the algorithms) that my generation's (I fall into the cusp/Xennial generation) current version of being in style is whatever DIY home renovation you can achieve. Nevermind that I couldn't afford a home until after I hit 40, have only lived here three years, and I'm too damn tired to think about how we can remodel our bathroom ourselves.

As for all of your examples... I'm pretty sure I'm cheugy by definition, as I do love sunscreen, naps, and voting! You are right that it is a trait for every young generation, to find ways to differentiate themselves from their parents! I only hope the younger generation does a better job at taking care of the planet and each other than ours has done.

Apparently now there isn't an age limit. Wikipedia says:

The Red Hat Society (RHS) is an international social organization that was founded in 1998 in the United States for women age 50 and beyond, but now open to women of all ages.

I love your tone and writing style in this entry :)

I don't know that I've ever asked, I'm curious how many kids you have? Do you have grandkids now?

That last quote was the icing on the cake. It's so true, even so many centuries later. Thanks for sharing it!

My husband and I have three sons. Throughout my teaching career, in addition to teaching science full time for numerous years, I have often been the substitute or the occasional teacher (Drop in art class or once-a-month science). Hence I would introduce myself. Part of that was asking my younger students to guess how tall my children were. Of course, they related the question to their own lives and typically guessed heights that could be appropriate for someone who was six or nine. Fact is, my boys have been grown-ups for a long time. The oldest is a Google engineer (he who solves a/c technology problems, the youngest is an undercover cop, and the middle child is the perennial beekeeper and writer of true adventures that occur at the intersection of travel and beekeeping. You know him as emo_snal Cold truth, my sons are now cheugy themselves. And yes, two of them each had children two years ago, (four days and 400 miles apart!)
