Funny that I spend all my time on a computer, but never in contact with anyone I really know. That is, not a customer.

Aside from cleaning up the apartment some more, spending most of my time with Jo, and going to Deutsch Vorlesungen, not a whole lot has been going on. Well, I did finally get my bumper repaired for $900 (not too shabby ( Read more... )

It was a Glock 19 gage.

I went to the range at lunch today.
If you like the Glock 17 and 19s, you should try the Springfield XD-9.
I've got one, and I love it.
The only thing the Glocks have are the finger-nipples, (or divets as most people call them), on the front of the grip.
I put an $8 Houge Hand-all on my XD and it feels like a dream now.

I also took my Kahr MK9. -Nothing like a 3" barrel for concealed carry.
The metal frame is a bit heavier than the Kahr PM9's polymer, but it also dampens the recoil.
My friend has the PM9, so I've shot them side-by-side.

As for the Itallian, I would have given directions to the airport, and left it at that.
At least he didn't want you to get in the SUV and show him the way to the airport.

The Glocks are OK. They feel really cheap, but I can see why they are so popular - lightweight and almost no recoil on a 9mm. Its amazing what that does for improving accuracy too. But then, its not much of a challenge either...

I'll keep the Springfield in mind next I go. It will be awhile tho - last night was expensive!

Well that was one detail I left out. The Italian clearly had a map of the area; it was sitting on his dash. He sounded like he wanted me to help him with his car rental, that somehow was involved with an airport, and that's what sketched me out. One of the words he used was "Unterschrift" - meaning "signature"...

The polymer body on any handgun will make it feel a little cheap.
The XD has a similar feel, but is about $100 cheaper, and is just as solid.
If you want to try a metal gun, the Sig 226 or 229 are nice.
They are heavier and feel more "solid", but that's just the metal frame.
If you want to shoot one that feels like a cheap toy, but is actually a very good gun, try the Kahr PM9.

I would stay away from the Tarus 24/7. I know of people who have seen the polymer frame break while shooting. The Glocks and the Springfield XD series have a good reputation.
Next time you're up, we'll go shooting. I'll let you try the "party mag" in the XD-9.
-by "party mag" I mean the 32 round magazine I've got for it.

By "signature" did he mean "Hey, rent me a car, so I can bomb the airport and not have it traced back to me"?

Lord knows. Such words are not in my scant vocabulary. I don't think that junior college courses put much priority on instruction for those kinds of situations...

And yeah, that sounds really fun! No idea when I'll be up there next, but I'd like to check out the Seattle area more.

I assume you're talking about shooting off rounds with our friend Mia and Jo your girlfriend. It's just funny because my friend Mia and my karaoke-host friend Joanna (sometimes she goes by "Jo") like to go to Target Masters and shoot off rounds together all the time. It's actually on myspace. http://www.myspace.com/emiliamia (that's Mia) and her profile image is of herself and Jo(anna) shooting at Target masters. They just went last week I believe. Isn't that just too strange!?
