I'm working out what I can do pretty damn slowly, but I'm doing it. And fuck if I'm going to waste my life. Even if the rest of the country goes to hell, what do I care if I'm happy? Don't despair, my dear.

Perhaps it is more that you aren't looking in the right places. I see a revolution of a different kind and it is taking hold.

It's easy to say our country is going downhill. Too easy, at some point the US being a shithole contrasts with reality. We have fat American's but we also have McDonald's being forced to add nutritional information on their meals and they're now selling salads to boot. There are people who are seriously concerned about it, even to the extent of silly things like removing snacks from school vending machines. President Bush has made a fool of himself in many ways and his and Dick's approval ratings reflect that. Democrats are regaining power if only because they can point to Bush and say they will do better. The environment is worrisome, but everyone's in love with Green and Al Gore nowadays. Even gays are slowly becoming more accepted. In many situations, when something is going wrong, people stir up shit about it until something happens or the people in power aren't re-elected. In fact, in almost every situation, evils are balanced out in time. Sure, some aren't, but that doesn't mean things are inherently flawed. Pessimism ( ... )
