Do folks have any recommendations on an easy way to digitize old VHS tapes and cassette tapes? My dad is sending me a whole bunch of old tapes of my childhood and I'd like to get them converted into digital media so I can start archiving them with all my other digital media.

The easiest way to convert vhs to digital to pay someone to do it :) Like these people http://www.videotransfercenter.com/
Peter converted some old VHS stuff to DVDs by hooking the vcr up to his computer and getting graphics card with video capture (if you don't have one already). It worked fine.
I think he did something like this:

this uses a camcorder instead of vcr

Have fun! :)

If you have a PC, make sure you have the right sound card that can accept a 1/8" male cable for microphone (same thing as a headphone jacket but it's sound in, not out).
