Shields have been developed by scientists in the UK for the purpose of deflecting ionic solar radiation from spacecraft. 5 years to develop a prototype to scale. Well first, survival. You can't accomplish any greater purpose without that.

Second, I'll go with simply forming a complete understanding of the universe and attaining balance with it. There's probably a nearly unlimited amount of beauty, wonder, violence and total serenity. Things occurring that upon realization would bring most people to tears in awe. Let's learn to live in the bigger picture and not fuck it all up like we're doing right now to this planet by being totally narrow minded.

Then, peaceful and harmonic co-existence for eternity.
