I was going to work on the freeway on my GSX-R1000, edging over to the paint as I was going along with traffic to peer ahead, and this human anus whipped between me and a car, coming inches from hitting me with a mirror or handlebar or leg or whatever, dress pants flapping in the wind. I just love the bikes who whip past me doing 80 when traffic is crawling, or better yet at 100mph, splitting my lane when I'm *next* to another car doing about 80.

Yeah when splitting lanes two things are important!

-Speed difference. The more this is, the worse things could be for you.

-Minding the gap. When two cars are next to each other, they can not change lanes without something going wrong. When one car has a totally open space a lane over, it easily can change lanes. Often this happens in California with a sharp jerk of the steering wheel and without a signal. Cars next to each other is the more reliably safer option. If one car wants to slap his metal against the other while you're in between, the rule of thumb is to hit your brakes really fucking hard and let them do it. =D
