Being an American

Jan 24, 2008 01:09

I find the whole idea of being an American, especially a Nationalist is a particularly strange thing. On the one hand, I am uncomfortable and disturbed by the fact that our nation is brainwashed (by sports, mostly, I assume) to pick a SIDE, rather than to follow their own brains ( Read more... )

If you say anything bad about illegal immigrants being allowed to enter the country, then you obviously hate all Mexican people. If you point out any of the fallacies of the idea that we just arrest all of the illegals in the country or dare suggest we just let some of them stay, then you obviously hate the entire rule of law.

Why can't all be people be so sensible? Seriously, I completely agree with you, and that right there is exactly the reason this debate is going nowhere. Like most debates in this country right now, everyone is just talking past each other.

Well, the republicans are not going to do anything real about it, because big business LOVES this shit. The democrats are not going to do anything real about it because big business loves it.

You don't want illegal immigrants to take your shitty jobs? *enforce the law*. It seems like the politicians are taking the concern of the people and putting it on those people who really deserve to be here. I hear so many fucking stories (my mom's an immigration lawyer) of people being deported who have lived here since they were five.

Deported. Back to fucking Mexico, where they have no friends, no family, no life. Do I think I'm any more of an American than them? I didn't have to do shit to live here.

I'm all for closing down the borders as much as we can, but at least make immigrating here something less than the awful sinking hellhole it is.

Ron Paul makes me extremely angry. Sometimes he makes me sick. I can't believe that a man who is so racist and xenophobic even dares to call himself a "constitutionalist."

Racist, xenophobic, and above all, stupid. It really disappoints me that otherwise intelligent people are all for a guy who's just going to fuck everything up.

You want an example of a man who messes with *every* department, that's Bush. You know, firing the people who actually know what they're doing and hiring idiots in their place? It's not just the cabinet, the US Patent and Trade Office, for example, is now run by fucking idiots.

So no, Ron Paul, you are not qualified to make judgements on every part of the government. Also, the racist thing was the first thing to really piss me off about it, but I can't abide libertarianism anyway.

libertarianism-to-the-extreme, I mean.

Also, could you vote for someone who doesn't BELIEVE in EVOLUTION? I couldn't.

*ahem* This is merely my opinion but I'll say this. I don't mind immigrants who, upon entering this country, respect its laws. This is the United States, not some private club for members only. We are all immigrants but we can only keep the States open if we respect its laws and govern ourselves.

But what I take issue with are those immigrants and people in general who steal social security numbers, people who drive cars without a license or insurance and endanger others on the road, and any other number of offenses.

I guess that makes me some sort of monster. Ah well. *slithers off to eat another virgin*

I'm with you on the frustration. I've read the comments however and I'm pissed that the discussions are not so much about how to make it better but who to blame. There is no one side/demographic/political view/person to blame except those who have tried to do it illegally so we have to work harder to protect ourselves which make it harder for honest people who do want to immigrate legally to get in.

What, blaming the politicians? It's their responsibility to take care of the United States, and they don't. I don't think that's an unfair statement ( ... )
