down the memory lane of progress (in art)

I feel kind of inspired to throw up my REALLY OLD ART, especially after posting up of my 2004 arts some posts ago and watching amei and wredwrat do the same. Figured I might as well do it now while I'm still at home HOME in KL, so here's my share of eye bleedin' stuff, from 1996-2005. That's all of my years in Primary and Secondary school! :D

1996; age 8
This was all I could find for now, so have the height of my accurate colouring skillzzzzz! Simba was obviously traced though. This was the period when I was on an EXTREME Lion King and Disney high.

1997; age 9
By this age I have turned into a dog maniac; I would pour through ENCYCLOPEDIAS (yes kids, Wikipedia? What the hell was that back then!) or buy a crapload of dog-related magazines and try my best to copy the photos in it. I think I created a lot of comics with a certain pack of dogs in it, with my own dogs included. lmao

1998; age 10
My classmate in school infected me with Sailormoon, and this was the time when every girl was mad about it because they used to show Sailormoon R on TV2 in the evenings, and I think this was when ASTRO (our satellite TV provider) kicked off too so we had stuff like Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. I recall this was when I really started getting into anime (like Akazukin Cha Cha, Martian Successor Nadesico etc).

unsymmetrical faces wtf

1999; age 11
And then video games invaded my life because I decided to pick up FF7, which was all the craze back then. I bought the PC version, downloaded cheats, so when Cloud jumped out of the train in the beginning he had Omnislash and Ultima Weapon. 8)

watercolour Aeris lololol

This was also the time I was introduced to CG'ing, so all of this was done with a mouse (with scanned lineart) and coloured in Paint Shop Pro. hahahahaha oh btw if you check on RPGamer.com, there's some dude who claims that this and my Chrono Cross fanart posted there is HIS but clearly with my watermarks still there. LOLZ

2000; age 12
I think I'm pretty fortunate to have my first Wacom Graphire2 tablet at this age; I got it as a result of getting straight A's in our important UPSR examination that all Primary 6 students have to take. I've been hankering for it for ages and got it when I scored. And because we upgraded our computer system (Pentium II for the win lolzzz), I got myself a copy of Photoshop 5.5 and that's when I started CG'ing like mad.

2001; age 13
I was sooooo into Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings during this time. Had quite a number of OCs too!

old OC, I used to have a LOT of them

This was how Sirius, Remus and Snape looked in my eyes before the movie came out.

2002; age 14
Used to have this comic/story idea called SwordBreaker, but I never went through with it because it had so many plotholes and I didn't know what to do. But I really miss the amount of characters I created for the series and how I was into designing a bajillion OCs during this time. This here is Kouryuu, protagonist of the series. He's half Dragonian. :D

2003; age 15
RAGNAROK ONLINE TOOK OVER MY LIFE. I didn't bother studying for PMR but played RO instead and still ended up with pretty alright results. 8DDDDD

Frika (my thief) and Roku (ultra_butterfly's magician)

ok so I really love the Knight and Assassin class

2004; age 16
Here's when I think I started to become emo and more serious about art. God I was so proud of this L CG back then lol

EMO FAG ART

2005; age 17

AND ONE ARTWORK I'M STILL PRETTY PROUD OF TILL TODAY

WHICH IS THIS

LAZLOOOOOOO from Suiko4!! My favourite part is still the sky and water. I don't know how long I spent on it but this was when I just CG'ed without a CARE in the world and really enjoyed it... unlike now, when I start thinking about too many things and in the end I just don't like whatever I just drew.

BUTTTTT I guess it all boils down to just drawing more and more, and learning from where you went wrong? There's no magic formula to being better except constant practice, and heck even if I've been drawing for quite some time I still have loads to catch up, especially with some of you amazing artists that I know who are younger than me.

Here's to making sure I MAKE TIME for myself to draw, despite being dead tired after work, so that I won't become rusty with art and try to improve! Even if it's bit by bit.
