i love british colloquialisms, and calling something 'mental' or someone a 'mentalist,' is hillarious to me. i'm always slipping things like 'cheers' & 'pratt' in conversation, and i'm afraid of sounding phony faux-british, a la madonna. but most texans, i've found, don't even notice-they find my 'non'-accent funny as it is, so they go with it.
gosh you say funny things that make you seem like a really sweet person!
1) never knew "mental" was Brit-style-lingo, I thought it was from the USA(but then I lived in upstate New York, maybe it's different there) 2) Though I'm not British, I never really feel like a fraud since Saran is, and I live here, plus I get hammered for saying "wah-der" instead of "wa-ter" and my mantra: "ooooooh man, that sucks" annoys everyone this side of the Atlantic. Thus, it's sort of easier, though I resist, to follow madonna's act.
aww, phranks. i think i'm pretty sweet, but indeed a little saucy too.
that would be so funny to be chastised for saying "sucks" since it's ubiquitous over here. another thing i love about brits, and about certain (really with it) americans (such as my husband), is their self-deprecating sense of humor. everything's funnier w/a dash of humility & keen observation.
so sunshine, how is the space age cooking going? I think saying "mental" is so cute, I should say that people might think I´m cute too. You don´t like flying? Is you mom´s husband your dad or is she remarried? got 3 out of 5 of your guilty pleasures :)
