Leto should know by now that visiting Fandom came with certain risks, more specifically the risk of turning into some kind of altered version of yourself. This was particularly problematic when your reason for visiting was to have a very serious conversation with a friend, and even more so when your alternate version had planned to have more or ( Read more... )

Well, at least Leto wasn't the only one with the weekend on his mind. That was a good thing, right? Or was he incoming phone call from an antsy Sparkle maybe something that Leto wasn't quite ready for?

Because Sparkle had woken up that weekend with a vague sense of terror hovering over him, and the more he thought about the weekend, the more he needed to know if what had been said was them, or if what had been said was Fandom. And Sparkle... wasn't completely certain he could handle it if it was all Fandom.

So... he was calling. And nerving himself up to actually waiting for Leto to answer the phone, rather than freaking out and hanging up and pretending none of it had ever happened. That was a thing he was doing.

So far, he wasn't terrible at it.

No, Leto wasn't ready for this. There was still that feeling of lack of control, something he rarely experienced these days. When his phone rang he wasn't surprised to see Sparkle's name on the display, and he let it ring for longer than usual, debating with himself what to say.

"Hello Sparkle." Leto's voice was neutral, in the way of someone who was used to controlling emotional expressions when necessary.

Oh. Oh, that neutrality was already a punch to Sparkle's guts, right there, though he tried to keep a sting out of his voice when he replied with an all-too-casual-sounding, "Hey, Leto."

He swallowed and started pacing the floor. Okay. Neutral. Maybe neutral wasn't bad. Maybe it didn't mean that Leto was, like, about to dump him or something.

Yeah. He'd cling to that.

"... How are you?"

Smooth.

There was a pause when Leto considered how to respond. Then he said, ignoring Sparkle's question:

"We both know that's not the question you want to ask."

No, that sounded too harsh. Leto sighed. "The one I was this weekend wasn't too different from the one I am. I just prefer to speak for myself."
