Anyone know of a good bike storage solution that:
    * allows me to hang the bike vertically from one of the tires rather than horizontally
    * doesn't involve poking large holes in my apartment

Horizontal, but I love the Delta Michelangelo Two-Bike Gravity Stand.

Maybe you could get one of those tension poles (like Racor Pro Two-Bike Pole Storage Rack) and just modify the holders to hold it by the wheel instead of the crossbar, if you're only putting one bike on it.
