But I still prefer boxing.
The average boxer's technique is a lot better, you can see what is going on in a boxing match and there isn't all of this time wasted skating back and forth knocking a puck around. What's that part all about, anyway?

No, there isn't alot of technique in a hockey fight. But, people don't watch the hockey fights for the technique. They want to see two (or more) guys beat the spit out of each other.
The main reason i wish i would have watched this was because it was more then a fued over hockey. It was personal. There was real emotion. A friend was getting revenge for a friend who suffered a cheap shot that left him with a broken face.
Alex, you missed out on a huge rivalry in this city. The Avs had just moved to Colorado from Quebec (Where they were formerly the Nordiques), Roy was traded there by the Canadiens after he got trounced by the Wings in an 11-1 beatdown, and, as you mentioned, Lemieux took what was basically a cheap shot on Draper. That fight was just the first of many in this rivalry. Osgood and Roy went at it in another goalie brawl in '98, and every time the Wings and Avs played from '97 to probably about 2000 or so, you were all but guaranteed a few fights. I remember a couple of times where the first fight came right after the puck dropped in the first period.

I dunno. I'm a sucker for raw emotion.
