Single Male with No Criminal History?

Because i have to move somewhere and i've always had a fondness for the cities of twin, i'll be heading back to Minneapolis in mid-July. However, because i don't know exactly where life will direct me, i'm looking for sublets. I don't want to commit to a year-long lease only to discover that my life calling awaits in Bloomington, Indiana ( Read more... )

Hehe.

Truthfully, he may be a very nice person. Perhaps i'm passing up an opportunity to meet my new best friend. But, i suppose with every life decision, i'm potentially passing up an opportunity to meet my new best friend - and thus far, i've survived:-)

Cool! Maybe when I finish reading Bird by Bird I can give it back to you in person.

You know, i completely forgot that you had that. (I have a [good/bad] habit of letting books loose without much consideration for where i'm directing them.)

Sounds like a plan. Let me know when you finish it up.

Who knows, maybe the guy had a bad experience with someone who had a criminal background and if he had known it beforehand, he could have avoided it. Without anything else to go on, he could just be allaying concerns and not being a creep. I think it is naive to assume the best out of people.

And you are undoubtedly correct. I mean, i'm selecting potential roommates on the basis of absolutely nothing...and though i've not yet had a negative roommate experience, i may be the only person who has had roommates and can still make this claim. So perhaps i should be more cautious. (And really, i will be. I'm not going to move somewhere sight unseen, roommates unmet). But even so, because this falls so far outside of my day-to-day experiences, i'm kind of surprised that this is a consideration. (Again, doesn't make it right - just makes it me).

Yeah, especially considering any roommate is under no legal obligation to reveal anything, even if they're a registered sex offender, it's not a bad thing to know. I understand why it'd seem odd, but all it takes is one bad experience to change that perception. One reason I like living alone.

So are you saying you're going to move immediately before the bar exam? I wouldn't do that if I were you. Take the bar, then move. It's taken me a month just to get settled here.

If not, nevermind.

I think we have different standards for "settling." I'm looking for a place to put my stuff for five weeks while i figure out life. It seems you've moved into a home, if only a temporary one. I promise, i will spend no time sanding down adhesive circles or repainting.

Ultimately, this seems to make more sense. Three days after the bar exam ends, i head out to North Carolina for a week for family vacation. We get back August 7th, i think - and at that point, it just seems like a big hassle to make one more trip back to Cleveland. Easier to drop everything here before, methinks.
