Rachel was just a hairsbreadth behind the girl and still Amber managed to disappear on her. Her reaching hand caught nothing but air and a fading image, and there was nothing but the new street before her. Sirens, blood, smoke

Amber is a mass of rising confusion and frustration, headed steadily for the lake. And a blazing power source.

Her mind is crackling with thoughts and riddles... and a second pattern beneath, growing stronger.

Oh....that was bad. They were separated by a layer of reality, but the physical paths were nearly the same. Rachel was able to shadow her friend easily, as long as she didn't let any of the denizens therein stop her. that second pattern worried her. A lot.

As did that energy source. It wasn't in the direction of the doorway out, which was where Amber should have been heading. Maybe she could reach the girl, a little, without tearing apart reality? ::Amber?::

She can't seem to pick it up.

Or it's being repelled.

But as Rachel moves closer, things
(Amber blips out)
twist

And it's not where she was
(the presence swells)
but it's not the world they were in before
(power flares)
and it's not the real world
(Amber reappears)

There's an island in the lake.

( Under the flare of power is the sharp stab of terror from Amber, stronger than it has been before.)

Terror. Sheer, undiluted terror. It took something severe to drag a reaction like that from her friend.

And more importantly, it made threatening the structure of reality worth it as Rachel decided to stop searching for an exit and punch her way through the reality layers.

Hopefully no one important would die.
