So the last couple vids I recced were, basically, upbeat! Energetic! A bit dark, a bit faceted, but still marked with glee.
Yeah, this next one? Not so much.
Climbing Up the Walls, by
obsessive24, is a threefold multi-fandom piece; it features Peter and Nathan Petrelli, Sam and Dean Winchester, and Simon and River Tam, and if you haven't figured out what the common thread is then you're probably not the right audience for it. I don't personally ship Simon/River, maybe because I tend not to actively ship het, maybe because I'm not in the Firefly fandom (though I certainly enjoyed the show), maybe because I like to imagine I have some veneer of limits on occasion. But put these three pairings together and you get one hell of a fucked-up bang, my friend; this vid is creepy and twisted and takes great joy in popping the happy little romantic bubble we tend to put ourselves in when we think of our beloved class-E felony ships and it does it so damn well it makes your jaw drop.
A particularly twisted and awesome aspect of the vid is its use of external sources and altered images; I've seen porn spliced in before (the DW vid Closer, and of course I've heard of its ST: TOS forebear), but even then it felt slightly disconnected, whereas here, it just slides in neatly and makes you shiver, maybe because its lack of actual explicitness sometimes makes it difficult to tell which pairing it represents and thus blends it all together in a pool of limbs and hands and fucked-uppery. The still images and photomanipulations, particularly for Peter and Nathan, oddly make it seem more real, like actual photographs taken by god knows who for god knows what purpose (and with Peter and Nathan, of course such a thing isn't inconceivable). And the imagery, man, the imagery, all the cracked and broken things and blood and tying shots together (there's a bit that takes three very significant scenes from each of the pairs, and partially tints them all blue to match--it's just gorgeous), and the repetition of a few particularly unsettling pictures, and I'm sure you could write a paper on this shit, but I have to go to bed soon and I really want to watch this like three more times because I'm sure there's tons I missed. (I didn't get the bit with the road sign until the second viewing, because apparently I am thicker than a board.) So go. Watch it. And take a shower afterwards. You may feel the need to.
