So, some months ago, I was watching
this fabulous multifandom vid and thinking heavens, who is that ridiculously attractive boy in the orange jumpsuit, and during Clarion I got a recommendation to watch a particular show I'd been vaguely intending to see for some time, and one thing led to another and now I'm caught up on Misfits.
I've said Tiger & Bunny is like X-Statix with likable characters, but, well, Misfits is like X-Statix without the reality TV and the fame-whoring and actually the crime-fighting as well so really Misfits is not that much like X-Statix except for how it is about people who have superpowers but really really shouldn't. They're not criminals! Well, not super criminals. They've only murdered a few people and those were mostly by accident so they don't count. And drug charges, illegal driving, attempted arson, and an impressive commitment to being an asshole aren't real crimes, right? Right!
I'm not always big on things that have a lot of sex and violence, but Misfits is just so refreshingly honest about it. When a show is clearly having so much fun being absolutely filthy, it's kind of difficult to look down on it. And, really, the show is very much like one of its main characters: totally outrageous, flat-out undignified, completely shameless, and yet strangely endearing. Plus he really is ridiculously pretty.
I mean seriously look at him, Jesus Christ. It doesn't hurt that the show is actually kind of hilarious. And, I shall be honest, it's been months since I've been able to watch a live-action show without constantly checking the clock to find out when it's going to end, but with Misfits I am always stunned to realize that an episode is over. I'd previously thought the show was all wrapped up, probably because Green Wing did the "two seasons and a Christmas special" thing as well, so when I got to the end of the Christmas special and things weren't all wrapped up I was about to start swearing until the announcer lady over the credits said "and come back next year for series three!" so yeah. Strangely endearing, what more can I say.
