I appreciate deeply how much effort our families put into helping us move.

However, what few pieces of good furniture we did have (my work desk, the entertainment center, my glass shelves) all now have the most interesting, obvious, ugly distress marks ( Read more... )

I have Verizon, though my name isn't Duston. :)

My phone is the LG-VX 4500. It's flippy, silver, and has a color screen - but no camera and no extra fancy crap. It's pretty basic, and fairly utilitarian. I got it when I upgraded from my old clunky black LG phone, and it works fine.

Yay for new stuff!

Thanks for replying. :) Duston used to work at a Verizon store so I wanted to get his opinion, but anyone else is more than welcome to jump in. I don't know a darn thing about cellphones, I just need to be able to make calls.

You're welcome. I actually love Verizon a lot, as far as companies go. Their service works everywhere, and every time I've had a problem, someone has fixed it the first time I called.

They do a good job and their coverage of the US can't be beat.

I've actually been less than impressed with their prepaid service, but they apparently have a really good reputation in DC so I thought I'd try them.

Someone other than Duston here:

Perhaps you want to have a look at TracFone? This is what's in use here, in conjunction with the basic prepaid cards you find at Target or Lowe's. Of course, there aren't very many long-distance calls outgoing from here (perhaps one/month)...

Whoops, I wasn't really clear. We're going to drop using a landline completely and just use the cellphones. Whatever phone I get is going to see a LOT of usage now, up from the couple of calls a month I used to make to at least one a day (just from the change in circumstances). I do appreciate the suggestion, though.

Drop the land line? Eek...

Call me whatever, but I wouldn't think of losing my land lines (yes, there are two). I suppose that part of that is that both are connected essentially 24/7 (one to the dialup ISP and the other to the DSL), and I'd hate to pay by the minute for that. Well, all right. it's not that I'd hate it; I simply couldn't afford it...

Anyway, thou shalt do as thou seest fit...

:o)

Well, technically we never had a landline in the new apartment. I never used the landline in the old one - I don't like talking on the phone, so the only people who used it were telemarketers and on the odd occasion something important. Since we're off the DSL now we don't have to have one like we did before.
