Oh manga you fascinating concept

I just had two maintenance guys drop by to do a quality control on my plugs. The event itself was slightly annoying since they told me they would be over in an hour's time... yesterday afternoon. Then they came by this morning and said they'd be back after lunch... I waited - they weren't here after the given time so I went and got lunch. Of course ( Read more... )

Lol I can't help but to feel that maybe my eyes have become so used to seeing everything in terms of manga aesthetics that I can't even tell what makes manga look manga in other people's eyes. XD

I used to get, "Hey, you draw those Pokemon people" when drawing shoujo-esque stuff. o_o;

Haha I find it quite interesting to see just how different you'd have to be in order for people not to classify your drawings as manga. Is it the size of the eyes? The way you draw hairs? It's interesting to know.
Lol I just got this silly idea of doing a series of portraits where the eyes gradually get smaller and have people say at which eye size they would no linger classify it as manga. XD This way you'd have a scientific proof of what defines manga!! *gasps* Revolutionary! XD

Haha he did seem happy to have recognized "manga" so I endorsed him with a "Yeah kind of" to the "You must like DB right?" comment. Don't know how much more I could stretch it. XD

It would have been nice to have talked more at the dinner, it's always hard to get around at big gatherings though. ^^ I got your comic Petty Thieves at Minami! Lovely job, it was a fun read! :)

Because her hair is sorta sticking up/ spread out? She's a super Sayian! Perhaps there was an episode where Goku donned a dress?

Or maybe their logic is that anyone who likes manga or anime must like Dragonball or Sailor Moon.

The thing that surprised me the most was that he made such a quick connection to DB. I didn't think this style was so blatantly manga/cartoonish but maybe it is... I must be too subjective judging cartoonishness.

I think it may have been due his own limited exposure to anime and manga. He may know enough to recognize the style as manga, but afterwards he equated it to the popular styles of Pokemon or DBZ or YuGiOh. Or perhaps he was nervous (you may have a secret admirer now) and it slipped out without thinking.

Hmm yeah... that's really interesting (and funny in a way! XD)! Did they know what manga was, or were they just using DB as an example because they didn't know the word for "that sorta Japanese drawings stuff..."? It's really pretty illustration btw :3!

Lol yeah he didn't look so manga-savvy so I'm guessing he just picked up the manga influence and only had DB to connect it to. X) Which means that manga has projected a preconceived idea about what it should look, even to non-manga fans, interesting... XD
