From not being able to walk without pain on the weekend due to my stupid fall in boot camp to this - my throat started getting sore on Sunday, and yesterday and today I can barely swallow without a huge effort and much pain. BOOT CAMP. The name summons up all kinds of images... for me, I imagine a squadron of fit, hot young guys running around in army boots and camouflage pants, their faces dirty, streaked with sweat... muscles bulging, deep voices rasping with exertion... ...

Race time...
OK, so here is my "turtle time" - 43:13
I had gone into this with a goal of 45:00 - so, I beat my goal - and I am very happy about it. Just to be a bit of a wet blanket, I was kind of hoping for more like about 40:00, but hey, NEXT TIME!!

5K DAY
Here I am only a couple of hours before one of the biggest goals I have ever set for myself - my 5K. I barely slept last night, too jittery, sort of nervous, sort of excited... Today I ran my last "training" run before the real thing this Sunday. I had a lot of emotions swirling round as I entered the Y today to pick up my race packet. My coach was there, and handed me my YRun shirt and number... she couldn't believe I needed an XL shirt, so she had given me a L (these are men's sizes). I don't know why, but something about the last few days has made me face some demons. Some grainy, sugar-cane-y, fruity demons. I haven't had much to drink at all since last summer. So here I am, 6 days away from my "big" 5K run. After having a chance to run the course on Saturday, I feel very ready. Sure, I'm slow, and sure, I will take a few walk breaks... but I'm not going to be the slowest one... even in my running group alone there were a couple of people behind me, and considering that anywhere from 700-800 people do ( Read more... ) -
