One of our cats used to take socks out of my parent's sock drawer if they left it open. She would take a roll of socks and carry it around. I'm not sure where she ever put them. Our cat was pretty messed up in the head and I think she thought they were her babies? Heh...Although, if your cats are taking seperate socks, then they are totally just screwing with you. For some reason. lol...
