Did I mention writing exercizes? And then omitted it yesterday. oh well. So, uh.. . I am actually backing up my taptop?!! OmG. After some research, I chose Carbonite online storage rather than an exterior hard drive.
Benefits:
- Not stored in my home, so any natural disaster will (hopefully) not affect my backup files as well as my laptop.
- Seems to be simple, at least I haven't had to engage my brain significantly.
- It has a setting to (after the initial save) to just keep on adding to the backup as I generate or revise files, any time I'm online, so I don't have to actually, like, remember to do so weekly or some such.
- Relatively cheap: $54 per year. Compare that to an external hard drive - even over several years, it's a bargain, methinks. Trying the free 15 day version first.
Speaking of external hard drives. I may end up using my HP mini as such. Part of the prompt to actually follow up on the intent to backup as is recommended is another minor breakage that is very likely to exacerbate! :(
The battery sticks out in as a little stand in back - angling the keyboard conveniently, but also putting strain on the little connective tissues that keep the battery in place. And sure enough, I've managed to strain the darn latchety things, stuffing it in my backpack as I do, so that wee bits of plastic have cracked. If I wiggle it in the wrong direction it hits the switch that puts the computer to sleep, and it isn't charging the battery consistently Foo! Design flaw! Perhaps I should get my toughbook fixed and shelve/give away this one. The screen is kind of too small anyhow for graphics applications... Hmm and hmmph.
Speaking of the contents of my harddrive, I am not in the mood to attempt to polish my very first fanfiction, a Sam & Max choose your own torrid, tawdry adventure thing. It was posted to obscureslash, and when that site tanked, I set to revising it considerably. And it's still not quite right. And I don't at this juncture much care. So I might finally be able to re-post it. :)
