-I actually just got through running an epic D&D game set in Hell. Fiendish Codex II is your best friend; you should procure a copy.
-As for the Doom story, I forget the name but there's an awesome mini-series revolving around him in which he goes to Hell and jacks with Mephisto. It's AWESOME. Doom is definitely Marvel's best villain ever.
There's also a book I found by MOngoose Publishing called Expert Players Guide 3: Epic MOnsters. While I've not found the first 2 this one is well worth it.
And as for Hell, I'd suggest looking into some of the older editions for Ideas, like in 1st Clerics couldn't regain spells on the lower levels because good gods don't deal with the lower planes.
I went back to the old Gygax Days with some conversions I found on ENworld for older modules and I must say it's revitalized my enjoyment of DMing. Now if only we had enough players to set up a whole campaign without playing NPC's
