i don't think i touched any doorknobs or handrails either - i think mine came from sleeping in a cheep hotel down the street from the con mixed with a generally weak immune system caused by stress. that and i haven't been sick in a while so it was about time to pay the piper...

Ya know, the whole time I was there every time I touched one of those nasty handrails I got squicked. I'm already in the habit of not touching handrails on escalators at all, ever. I just need to apply that to other handrails and doorknobs in very crowded places, too.

I went and didn't pay attention to suchlike, and spent a week afterwards in the same house with a con crud sufferer and I didn't get sick! While your advice is good the things I would add as an uncareful eyt still healthy person are:
1. Hand sanitizer is your friend.
2. So are echinacea-goldenseal pills. They will usually keep something from being able to invade your system.

I havent ever gotten sick at a con. It helps to not touch the con goers too. ANd if you happen to actually work out and have an immune system you will be fine.
