Today I've had conversations with my advisor about: Burma; LinkedIn and Facebook; university purchasing; Burning Man; statistics. I have not, however, done any work at all. I also failed to get my computer order through the purchasing bureaucracy and, while occupied trying to get that done, failed to hang out with a friend who I keep punting on. ( Read more... )

"restrictions on what software is free enough"? Debian pragmatism?

I found the quote weird since, well, Windows and MacOSX have less free software floating about them.

Having dealt with driver bugs on the new MBP I can say fairly confidently: avoid running World of Warcraft. :)

I mean that there are things that are always a pain to install on Debian because they are free-as-in-beer rather than free-as-in-moral-crusade-for-righteousness.

Ah; I thought you were referring to the non-free tree that you have to explicitly add to the apt sources.
