NM, JS and I drove down from Berkeley to Kings Canyon Thursday night, where we met up with kilroi, EK, and JO. Well, except we didn't actually meet up with them til the next morning, due to our 2am arrival at the campground. But it all worked out fine.

Going to the optometrist makes me want to cry. I don't know why. It's not fear or anxiety. It's not depression over my ever-worse vision. It's just some sort of deep-seated reaction to having someone poke at my eyeballs then fail to correct my vision. But right now I want nothing so much as to curl up in a little ball and cry.

Today I am dealing with bureaucracy on the phone. Eye appointment, doctor's appointment, all sorts of things. The latest wasn't even on my to-do list. Last Thursday, Nick and I flew down to San Diego, met up with my brother (who lives there) and my parents (who don't), and drove out to Joshua Tree National Park. I didn't go to the Plough last night, as has been true so often since September. Instead, I walked home from BART with this Dave Mallet song on endless repeat and a deep feeling of melancholy. I think I'm glad I wasn't there. I miss it so much but I just don't deal so well with being there.
