I liked this! I use to work as a classroom aide for the school district and worked four years with children that had Down's Syndrom, Autism and other physical/mental disabilities. Some days, it seemed that they made one step forward and turned around and went two steps back. I loved "my kids" and took great pride in the little accomplishments they made. The Austistic children seemed to be the biggest challenge. Each one had different sensitivities so you had to really get to know them, learn what caused negative reactions, what responses reached through to them. Yes, and as aggravating as those bad days are, those children still grab your heart. I no longer work for the school district as we bought a restaurant and my time is spent there, but I will carry "my kids" with me throughout my life. I truly believe that they taught me more about life, and the power of love and patience than anything I could have given them.
