Archive of Our Own Anyone?

Sep 13, 2010 02:35

So in my other fandoms (that I mostly watch and don't write in really) I've noticed a few of the authors I really like (popular etc) seem to be getting into Archive of Our Own ( Read more... )

detective conan, ff.net, ao3, fandoms, writing

Hmmm, I've actually heard about it, I think on fanficrants somewhere - but I've never actually been to the site. I'm kind of interested now too, though; would you know how to get an invite?

S-sorry I'm not more useful XD Just showing interest as a fellow author who would totally move there with you. Maybe we should figure it out together. :D

'Cause yeah I like ff-net okay, but some of the formatting stuff irks me >_>

I got one by signing up for their beta. Right now they seem to be handing some out- I think once you get in then you get invites too- which if I do I'll be able to handout eventually ^^

And this is totally why I posted it. I wanted to see if their WAS interest. It's not fun if you trundle off to another site and no one but you is there ^^;;

And honestly I like using lj as fic stuff, but tis kinda like scans now- back in da dayssss... where your like "ahhh so many journals to watch!!" and it'd be kinda nice if there was a place again T.T

I think I'm also just in withdrawl XP

That and ff.net just sorta scares me now >.> the dc page is starting to look suspiciously like some other places I no venture, and with some of the drama that goes on... I'm kinda like "nuff"

I've been seeing it a lot, specifically on the Sherlock fandom. It looks like a nice place, not yet too crowded. If you get the chance to go, you probably should, I guess? :D

... glad to know I'm not the only one who's pretty much given up on ff, though.

I will watch Sherlock.... eventually.... I just need more time which is less existant right now.

I like this not too crowded thing, and I was hoping to slip away since so much of ff.net is less than impressive yaoi now which isn't really my thing for conan.

I'll read the OCCASIONAL *coughpointssupicicouslyatickacough* yaoi... but I got into because you could find good stories of several fields. A few exist but not many.

*prods you with a stick*

You totally need to write more fics XP I know you've been off holidaying but juuuusssttt saying.

Sherlock ♥ I’m in a curious situation - I’ve all the time I want, and yet none at all, because I’ve taken on too many projects at once. Still, if you get the chance to watch it sometime, you should - it’s fantastic. And the fandom’s exploded. Yum.

On the other hand, less people will know you there, so response is scarce. Doesn’t stop me from thinking about getting an invite someway or other though - as an archive, you know? about ff, my backing away is less due to the amount of slash than to the lack of goodfic. There’s so much to be read in so many fandoms on LJ, I haven’t got time for ff. (speaking of which, have you been writing anything, recently? I’m pretty sure I’ve got you on alert…)

Of DCMK slash I read only those that are rec’ed to me. They have to be really good for me to get over my love of all three (four?) canon pairings. ;)

But I have, I have! just not in DCMK. <3

To some degree the group currently on ff.net doesn't know me either, and I agree- I don't mind the slash but most of it's not even good and the het fics make me wince a little. (Not all- there's some I'm reading but still).

I haven't posted alot there, I've been writing, and will do a dump soon- I just have a finish/edit a couple of them. (Unless you count kink *blushesrunsaway* that got posted but you'll have to figure out which I wrote *coughsnottodifficultcoughs*)

*pouts* and you Should!!! In DCMK XP

I still want more cat boy among other things so nya~

Um... I actually have an account there.

Keep meaning to upload DC stuff, but couldn't remember my password. Just got it, so will be remedying that.

-Their upload system, BTW? Is a bit of a pill to learn (too many ticky boxes), but once you do, edits are soooooooooooo much easier!

Ah HAH! *giggles* See! This is totally why I'm asking this question ^_^

You should completely upload DC stuff there... and I'm hoping since it seems smaller and selecter it won't be as nerve wracking of "can I post this? gah"

.....Although upload system worries me -.- I have trouble with just lj half the time... but as long as they don't really screw with my formats and stuff like ff.net when they go all crazy on me--

Plus it looks like the way they handle collections is better than ff.net.

I've got an account there, and I like it. As noted by ickaimp there are a lot of ticky boxes involved in posting a fic and setting up its classification, but other than that it's easy to use and I like the look/"feel" of it.

Hehehe yeah I noticed it in your journal (you were one of the authors who all started chatting about). I hadn't seen your

...blah posted it early...

*I hadn't seen anyone in my primary fandom mention it though, which is what got me more curious.

I noticed though with the trend, and the authors that seemed to be heading towards it that it reminded me of ff.net when I first got into fanfics.

And it had the same sort of vibes as "Teaspoon with an Open Mind" Which I may just not be on enough to really know, but comes off a little more wank free.

*will remember the ticky boxes ^^*

Thanks! I didn't think to check Meitantei...

S'okay I've been writing but not updating and not "finishing" anything, and I refuse to post more now if I don't have it completed on my harddrive.

Otherwise I just feel guilty for lots o' unfinished fics.

Thanks for pointing it out though ^_^ (and so thinks you should write again *g*))
