sun hot on the grass
sometimes you just want to bake
in the summer light

 long walk on the coast
the world shortened to just you
only fog beyond

downtown evening
mist low between skyscrapers
view shortened by fog

sky darkening early
jagged white shattering clouds
flat lands summer storm

plucking wilted buds
the sharp smell of marigolds
lingers long after 

 
The first good hot day
on a bench in the garden
after cold and rain

spring morning downpour
leaves rain damp colors bright
against flat gray sky 

 As afternoon wanes
evening fog turns golden hour
cool and heavy grey

 view of the far shore
fog settled in the valleys
hiding the inlets

damp earth in your hands
and under your fingernails
seeds safe in the ground
