New Orleans

I think my hopes for a victorious return to New Orleans have been dashed. To hear some tell it, it's GW's fault for spending the infrastructure maintenance money in Iraq. *shrug* Regardless of who is at fault, horror has descended on the Big Easy, and those people need help.

I think we're all saddened by events of Katrina.

As for the critics of those who failed to evacuate. Tragic mistake perhaps, but... I surely did not believe it was going to get this bad myself, and I have nothing to lose aside from a vacation destination. If I were in denial over losing my home, I can see how it would be easy to disbelieve.

I know in my region we will be encouraging cammies to donate. Yes, I know it seems petty to attach prestige to it, but if we can scare up dollars, that will be worth it.

*hug* Thank you for the post.

And there will be no abandoning. I can't imagine the people letting that happen.

In addition to my sorrow at the loss of life and property in New Orleans, I have to admit that I have a small (incredilbly small, by comparison) personal sorrow as well. For years, I've put off going to New Oreleans. I've never been there, and I have ALWAYS wanted to go. But, what with work, or my finances, I've always put it off. I mean, it'll be there next time, right?

So, now I also have guilt for having my own petty sorrows on top of the huge ones about the disaster.
