Here's one "simple" change that might make a huge difference: give up wheat. Gluten is ok, just stop eating bread. I discovered I was wheat intolerant (like dairy intolerant) a few years ago and eat and drink pretty much anything *other* than wheat-based foods ( ... )

I have done experiments before where I have completely cut out wheat and it actually makes no difference on how I feel (physically). I appear to be able to tolerate it quite well. The thing that causes me to not feel great is the lack of vegetables in my diet; if I eat veggies at most meals then I feel good.

The most difficult thing about this cleanse was not having any bread-like items for a week. I felt quite deprived. Since I've added it back in (in moderation) I feel much better mentally.

A week is just the warm-up!

I think I went for a couple of months missing bread-like things, but it was a bit like when I went vegetarian for a decade or so. The first few weeks were annoying but then I developed a new way of eating. I think the only time I notice it now is if I'm on travel and forget to bring my own munchies so I can skip the free cookies and crackers.

Oh, and no beer. I never liked ale much but giving up stout gives me the sad face at BBQs.

It's not that I went to the "wheat is evil" world, I still bake bread for holiday meals and go to Vanilla (local pastry shop) to get cupcakes for the office.
