Obligatory Unintended Plagiarism Warning:

- IIRC, the Nadraks were among the bad guys in the Belgariad. I believe they were the shifty, dirty, too clever for their own good, fur trapper group.

- Mara is a demonic figure in Buddhism; he tried to tempt Buddha with visions of beautiful women, and seems generally to stand for the opposite of Buddhist ideals.

The first one you probably don't care about, the second one seems such a close reference/ripoff that I wonder if it was deliberate.

The first one was certainly subconsious, I had just read the Belgariad when I first started working on this setting, decades ago. Once their were even more "ripoffs" in Thallassia, but they've been weeded out. However in Thallassia people from Nadrak are "Nadraconians".

Mara is deliberate.

As well you should know. Remember when the Vardashians were named after a M:TG card? Kalar is almost certainly a riff on the sound of a certain half Klingon's name, recall that it used to be spell Khelar.

Do you remember which Shining One Tetrarch wielded "Nuclear Winter" before you got a hold of it? Also do you recall the name of the island of Kavasir worshipping viking slavers that was southeast of Kesh? I can't seem to find either in my notes.

Nadraconians? EL OH EL.

Why the deliberate ripoff?

I'm not sure that the Shining One was even named at the time. Nuclear Winter had another name of course which might still be on Turrmuk's character sheet or in one of your old letters. Also, I'm 99% sure that island didn't exist at the time, or if it did, you never said much about it. For that matter I don't think Kavasir existed at the time either.
