One skates blithley through charmed encounters. All smiles, insincerity oozing so much we're swimming with it, altogether unsure whether and when we're being sarcastic. Safety is such a double-edged sword, isn't it?

You don't want the pain... so you try to stay safe.

But you want the life... so you hate not taking the risk of pain.

Hope things are less safe and painfree in the future, G.

You're entirely right. On the one hand it ensures we don't do ourselves any permanent damage as we go about our complicated lives. On the other? Well, the inclination to avoid injury dictates we lock what is vulnerable about ourselves away as though children in bubbles. Its something to avoid, to be sure, but a difficult instinct to shrug off...
