- Comfort: It wasn’t that Addison couldn’t sleep alone; it’s that she preferred a sleeping partner for comfort’s sake.
- Kiss: She was still upset and the only way he knew to help her was to place a feather light kiss on her forehead.
- Soft: He noticed that when she was relaxed, everything about her appeared gentler, softer: her hair, her eyes, her mouth, her skin.
- Pain: They both felt pain, they both knew what it was like to be hurt and they both knew that they needed each other.
- Potatoes: She liked hash browns and he liked French fries so neither of them had to worry about stealing food off one another’s plate.
- Rain: He imagined what she had looked like the night Derek left her, hair and clothes soaked with rain and eyes that betrayed far more sadness than he could comprehend.
- Chocolate: Fondue was supposed to be romantic but Addison was messy and Burke laughingly wiped chocolate off her nose.
- Happiness: As he wrapped his arm around her, she didn’t think she had felt happiness quite like this before.
- Telephone: When she was in Los Angeles, the ringing telephone was her best friend, especially when he was on the other line.
- Ears: He imagined that he could be closer to her if he pressed his ear even harder against the telephone receiver.
- Name: She had whispered, “Good night, Preston” in his ear and he was sure that his name had never sounded better.
- Sensual: He doubted that he could explain to her just how sensual it was when she stitched people up or pumped air into a new baby’s lungs.
- Death: She had finished her surgery just as he was coming out of his OR and she smelled like death, but he kissed her anyways.
- Sex: Their first time had been awkward, their second not much better, but, with practice (lots and lots of practice), eventually they were really quite good.
- Touch: He felt a tingle when her hand grazed his, the slightest touch alerting all of his senses.
- Weakness: Her weakness was foot massages, his was a shoulder rub and neither minded when the other figured it out.
- Tears: He couldn’t stand it when she cried, but she rather liked it when he brushed the tears away.
- Speed: Driving with Addison hadn’t been what he had expected, but when he saw her car, he knew she was all about speed.
- Wind: The wind blew her hair into his face and he tucked the red strands behind her ear.
- Freedom: Even though they were committed to one another, there was something about her that made him feel free.
- Life: They both knew what it was like to save a life, they both knew what it was like to lose one, and they both were grateful the other understood.
- Jealousy: Mark and Cristina both felt pangs of jealousy whenever Burke and Addison were together, but neither one knew what to do.
- Hands: When he held her hand, she couldn’t help but feel like his had been made to hold hers.
- Taste: She always sucked on a mint before their dates because she knew he loved the taste of peppermint.
- Devotion: They were devoted to their jobs almost as much as they were devoted to each other.
- Forever: Neither of them wanted to say that this was forever, even though they both felt that it was.
- Blood: There was something to be said for the fact that they could both be covered in blood and still find each other insanely attractive.
- Sickness: Maybe he wasn’t ready to commit to ‘in sickness or in health’ again, but he was sure that someday he would be.
- Melody: She loved hearing him play a slow, soft melody on his trumpet and often wished that she were the keys.
- Star: One night they had sat under a blanket in her car and when she saw a shooting star, she made a wish and shortly after, it came true.
- Home: His hand felt at home when it was wrapped around hers.
- Confusion: When Preston had first asked her out, Addison had felt nothing but confusion and when she accepted, he had felt nothing but glee.
- Fear: Whenever they watched scary movies together, Addison often had to bury her head in his chest, not even attempting to mask her fear.
- Thunder/Lightning: The thunder boomed and Addison flinched and he saw her surprised face shown in sharp relief when the lightening flashed seconds later.
- Bonds: Addison liked that when Preston dressed in a tuxedo, he often impersonated James Bond, introducing himself as “Burke, Preston Burke” and asked for martinis that had been shaken, not stirred.
- Market: Burke hadn’t known if Addison was on the market, but had asked her out anyway, figuring he could mask it under the pretense of “just friends” if she wasn’t.
- Technology: She was surprisingly inept with anything technological and often relied on him to set the alarm or program the VCR.
- Gift: She found it heartwarming that Preston loved Christmas and made sure to buy him the perfect gift.
- Smile: He smiled rarely, but when he did, it lit up his whole face and she lived for the moments when he laughed.
- Innocence: They both knew that the other was far from innocent where past relationships were concerned and they were both glad that it wasn’t an issue.
- Completion: There was a moment, a small, fleeting moment, when he saw Addison smile at him through her surgery mask that he knew life was complete.
- Clouds: The clouds had opened up, soaking Addison before she had gone five steps, and he smiled and put his coat around her shoulders.
- Sky: The sky was clear and the sun was bright and Addison handed his freshly dry-cleaned coat back to him.
- Heaven: Addison didn’t know if she believed in heaven, but she knew that when she was lying next to Preston, she was awfully close.
- Hell: Cristina thought that someone, somewhere, had decided to make Seattle Grace her own personal hell when Addison and Burke walked by her, hand in hand.
- Sun: Preston had a strong dislike for sunlight, but it only partly stemmed from the fact that Addison had left Seattle, and him, for sunnier climes.
- Moon: Burke drove to his empty apartment; streets lit by moonlight, and couldn’t help but miss the red-haired woman who used to drive with him.
- Waves: The waves crashed on the sand and Addison keenly felt the absence of the man who had let her go.
- Hair: Burke cleaned out his shower drain and was disgusted at the amount of hair that was trapped in it, and told Addison so later.
- Supernova: On their first date, Preston made Addison sit through Supernova and she thought that his crush on Angela Bassett was quite endearing.
