Yay! I will have to go with the the bottom two as well, but I did hand out chocolates. Nobody else did, so maybe I was just being weird. Or maybe they are just too busy to be making handmade chocolates (whereas I use factory-made pre-wrapped ones).
So, from what I gather from anime (lol yeah wow frame of reference fail, go me); the girls give chocolate to the boys on Valentine's... and if the boys like them, they eat the chocolate and give the girl a present on white day? Is that right??
Yeah, that's the tradition. There doesn't seem to be much chocolate giving among my classmates. I think they have outgrown it, plus this year everyone is too busy. But we foreign girls are all like "Valentine's Day in Japan! CHOCOLATE FOR EVERYONE!" because we saw it on TV and now we get to do it for real. You can really give chocolate to anyone, not just potential boyfriends, but I think people would read things into it if you gave them especially fancy chocolate. And then you get something back on March 14(?), except in my experience that does not happen much. (But I hear you can even get things back from people you never gave chocolate in the first place because some people just hand out things for White Day regardless.) I got some actual white chocolate back last year from one guy, and this year I got a blueberry bagel the day after Valentine's (which was in lieu of White Day) and some chocolate (which was for Valentine's Day) both from girls, so this year is a new record already at 2 things received.
