I went to my first and last counciling appointment at the schools health center. I guessed it would take her 20mins to go "....ok....well heres the number of someone who i think can help you, because I can't." I was wrong, it took 30mins. It took her 20mins to go "...umm have you ever been hospitalized inpatient for this?" and then another 5-10 to ( Read more... )

That's really discouraging because I was thinking about setting up counseling for myself too but I figure most of the stuff they deal with is very soft issues like homesickness and what not.

well they do help people with eating disorders....i know some people being seen by them, but she said that since its been going on so long (7yrs) and counseling's never helped before I probably need a specialist.

I think you should do what's best for yourself, and while going through all that trouble with counseling and your mom may not seem like the best, I'm pretty sure that letting yourself get messed up by an eating disorder for another few years is worse. If you really want to do this, you really shouldn't let the technicalities and difficulties hold you back. If that sounds super after-school-special cheesy, I'm sorry but I really needed to say something to let you know that I'm supporting you as mah friend. :)

I'm going to second this, and also remind you that if you do get put on inpatient, it's because you need it. The fact that you're reaching out for help now is a really big thing, but you have to go the whole way with it. Your mom might not like having to face the truth again, but she does want you to be healthy. Its a lot of drama and pain that I know you'd rather avoid, but its better to admit that you're not healthy, but you're trying to get help, then it is to keep going down the road you're on and keeping everyone superficially happy. I know it's scary to deal with this stuff head on, instead of pushing it away, but I also know you can do it, and, more importantly, you know you can do it. And you know it's the best move you can make for yourself.
