Do you know what confuses me? When Midlands Today interviewed people around Birmingham and asked them what they thought of the armed police everywhere and everyone said it made them feel 'safe'. How?

I thought after one of the attacks, seeing pictures of tanks parked at Heathrow Airport was a nice touch. There is nothing like a FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank to ... OK, I'll admit it, they got me. What exactly where they expecting to do with a tank there?
I suppose in theory they could use it to shoot up a incoming car-bomb ... assuming the tank by some unlikely chance happened to be in just the right bit of the very large airport at the right time and they could tell it was a target car before it blew up, and they didn't happen to, oh, you know, fire straight though it and take out a tour bus or hotel or something.
I mean, it's a freaking tank. This is not a subtle police weapon for use of carefully applied force, it's something you only send into a city if you're expecting to have to level chunks of it.
It was pure PR, and almost exactly the same situation as what you describe above, but with more firepower. It just doesn't seem to be a practical use of hardware.

also, they blow up mosques in Iraq, so I doubt they'd have any qualms about blowing up churches.
