If I recall correctly, caffeine has a half-life in your system of 8 hours. If you have a 12-oz can of Coke at 2pm, you have the caffeine of 6 ounces of Coke sloshing around in your system at 10pm. You may want to set the cutoff somewhat earlier than 6pm. ;)
That's weird to think of caffeine has having a half-life, since I always attribute that to radioactive substances, but it makes sense.
My problem is mostly that I don't drink a 12oz at 2pm, I START a 12oz (or more likely, a 20oz, or a 16oz coffee) around 2pm or 4pm and then sip it for hours until I finish around 8-10pm.
I started a 20oz of soda at lunch and there's still about 1/3 of it in my fridge. Around 6 I got a medium drink with my dinner and I still have about 1/4 of it in the cup now around 11:30.
