Okay, so
this post bothers me on a lot of levels. But the main one I want to address is the perceived insularity of LJ fandom. That is, anything that is posted on LJ is only seen by other LJers and not fandom-at-large.
Let's put this to the test. *g*
Here's a roll call! All you have to do is comment to this entry. Say whatever you want. "Here", "Yo!", "Spike's hot!", whatever. But only comment if one of the two following statements apply to you:
1. You participate in some off-LJ fannish activity. Anything. If you post on a fan forum, mailing list, follow a fannish Twitter, belong to a fan comm on Facebook, anything. Yes, this can be in addition to your LJ fannishness.
OR
2. If you read this entry but you don't have an LJ account. That is, you're not "a part of" LJ, yet you still read posts from it.
If you meet either of these criteria, post away! Anonymous comments are not being screened on this post, so if you don't have an LJ, just leave an anon comment. If you want to list the other parts of fandom you participate in, feel free. It's a roll call. You remember the drill from school, right?
And...go!
ETA: Oh. Forgive me if I don't reply to comments on this one. The point of a roll call is to be able to look at the comment count and get a quick number of how many people are speaking up. If y'all want a separate discussion entry auxiliary to this one, just holler and I'll do so.
Done Feel free to link this entry far and wide. The point is to show that something posted on LJ can be seen by a wider audience.
